Software Engineer

Novus is looking for a Software Engineer who is motivated to produce elegant, well-tested code. Someone who can translate requirements to code that delivers features and functionality for legal, development and release engineering teams throughout the company.  In this role you will work with internal and external groups to manage their use of open source and third party software. Your tasks will include developing the software and systems to help manage the use of open source software throughout the company; helping to educate the company on topics related to open source and its use and providing guidance on using and contributing to open source software.

  • Write modular, well-tested, server and client side code.
  • Design & implement data models in relational databases and document stores
  • Review code written by colleagues, providing constructive feedback and guiding junior developers Identify business and technical challenges, proposing solutions, and quickly developing prototypes
  • Work with the support team to triage and debug production issues
  • Work with team leads to define and prioritize features and projects, assist in estimating and planning the software development roadmap
  • Explain complex topics to a wide range of audiences (legal, business, security, engineering, executives) 
  • 3-5 years+ experience with Python and Django/Flask (or minimally a similar web application framework), including database driven web services and unit & integration test development.
  • 1-3 years+ experience with: Client-side javascript development, AJAX applications and modern javascript libraries (React.js, Mercury, Angular, etc) Git version control system. Linux operating system including basic scripting, Bash/Perl or similar.
  • Exposure to: text/document indexing and search (e.g. SOLR/Elastic Search) omachine learning and text mining/analysis techniques (NLTK, scikit-learn, etc).
  • Functional programming languages (Haskell, Scala, Erlang) or techniques.
  • Deployment management tools such as Chef, Ansible or Puppet Facility with a variety of programming languages (python, ruby, C/C++, javascript, haskell)
  • An understanding of programming language structure
  • Excellent understanding of source control management (SCM) environments (Git, SVN, Perforce);
  • Ability to successfully communicate with both technical and non-technical staff about the systems you design and implement.
